Common questions

Animated subtitles FAQ.

What's an animated subtitle maker?

A tool that adds time-synced subtitles to video — but instead of plain static text, each word or line animates in as it's spoken. Animation drives retention on TikTok, Reels, Shorts, and other short-form surfaces.

What's the difference between subtitles and captions?

Subtitles traditionally translate or transcribe speech for viewers; captions also include sound cues (music, laughter). On short-form video the terms are used interchangeably — both mean burned-in animated text.

Is this animated subtitle maker really free?

Yes. Free tier includes 32+ animated styles, daily upload + export allowances, and no credit card. Free exports include a small AnimateCaptions watermark; paid plans from $7.99/month remove it.

Do subtitles get burned in or attached as a track?

Burned in. The subtitle text becomes part of the video pixels. No SRT file to manage, no caption track to enable on the viewer's player — they just see the subtitles.

What video formats are supported?

Input: MP4 and MOV up to 500 MB. Output: H.264 MP4, capped at 1080p long edge. 4K source is downscaled with lanczos sharpening.

Can I edit subtitle timing manually?

Yes. The timestamp chip on each segment lets you set the exact start/end. The eye icon hides any segment from export.

Does this support languages other than English?

Yes — 36+ languages via Deepgram Nova-3 auto-detect. Subtitle fonts fall back to Cyrillic / Devanagari / etc. capable typefaces automatically.

Can I download an SRT file instead of burned-in subtitles?

Not currently — the product is built around burned-in animated subtitles. SRT export is on the roadmap but won't capture the animation since SRT is a plain-text format.
