Per-word animation

Adjust start/end of any segment, recolour any word, swap between 32+ per-word animation styles.

Why per-word

What word-by-word captions do differently.

Audio-synced per-word timing

Deepgram returns word-level timestamps. Our renderer surfaces each word at its exact start time and removes it at end time — pacing matches the audio beat for beat.

Eye-magnet emphasis

Each preset auto-emphasises content words (nouns, verbs, numbers) with colour, scale, or background highlight. The eye stays glued to whichever word is hitting right now.

Per-word colour control

Override any word's highlight colour in the editor. Use it for product names, emphasis, brand callouts — total per-word styling control without scripting anything.

Multiple animation modes

Pop-in scale, slide-up, fade, accumulate-then-clear — each preset picks the animation that fits its visual language. Pick the one that matches your edit pace.

Common questions

Word-by-word captions FAQ.

What are word-by-word captions?

Captions where each word appears at the moment it's spoken, not whole sentences at once. Drives retention because the eye stays fixed on the next word landing.

Are word-by-word captions free to make?

Yes. Free tier includes 32+ styles, daily upload + export allowances, no credit card.

How accurate is the per-word timing?

Deepgram Nova-3 returns word-level start and end times with sub-second accuracy. Our renderer respects those timestamps exactly — captions land on the audio beat.

Can I tweak the timing of individual words?

Yes — the segment-timestamp chip lets you adjust the start/end of any caption line. Per-word adjustments are inferred from the segment edits.

Which styles support word-by-word animation?

All 32+ presets are word-by-word. The difference between presets is HOW each word animates — colour shift, scale pop, slide-up, accumulate-then-clear, etc.

Does this work for fast speech?

Yes. Animation timing is per-word, so 5 words per second renders cleanly — no "caption overlap" problem you get with whole-sentence subtitles.

Can I export plain block subtitles instead?

Yes — pick the Full or Chunk preset and you get traditional sentence-block subtitles instead of per-word animation.

Does word-by-word work on long-form video?

Up to 2 minutes per upload. Long-form video typically doesn't benefit from per-word captions; the format works best for 30s-2min short-form.
